JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
Check out these inspirational pictures of Thirsk School & Sixth Form College’s emotive production of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR which took place back in February this year.
Inspired by the original London production, Ann Percival (Head of Drama at Thirsk School) made a promise to herself that she would only stage a production of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR when she felt she had the right cast and creative team to take on the challenge.
And 2012 was the year that it all came together…
Thirsk School’s interpretation of the show featured a huge illuminated steel cross and 4 plasma screens displaying thought provoking footage of modern day human suffering. The band used the 5 Piece Rock Combo arrangement and were ‘alternately funky, eerie, triumphant or sombre’ under the musical direction of Owain Pierce Williams according to Mark Dickson’s review of the show ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ .
With a combination of the powerful set design, talented performers and masterful musicians, (and the help of Elton John’s lighting designer!), the audience were forced to contemplate the themes and issues that JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR addresses.
Commenting on the ‘best bits’ of the whole experience, Ann said that she loved how over the course of rehearsals, the cast grew in confidence and threw so much energy and emotion in to performing the show. One student admitted that he was brought to tears when rehearsing the powerful last supper scene with his peers.
We would like to say a huge SUPERSTAR thank you to Thirsk School & Sixth Form College and all those involved in making the production such a success!
