Plot Synopsis
A child’s train set magically comes to life and the various engines compete to become the “Fastest – engine in the World”! The underdog, Rusty the Steam train, has little chance until he is inspired by the legend of the “Starlight Express” and ultimately defeats his arch-rivals “Greaseball” and ‘Electra before going on to win the hand of the lovely first class coach, Pearl.
The Definitive version of Starlight Express is now available to schools, colleges and universities. This is the version of the show that you’ll have just seen on tour in the UK which includes the new song I do and the full Megamix. The classic moments of the show still remain such as U.N.C.O.U.P.L.E.D., Rolling Stock, Pumping Iron and AC/DC.
With an eclectic mix of styles, the new Definitive Starlight Express, truly is a show with something for everyone.
This is the fastest and most dynamic musical you will ever experience, however you choose to perform it! The show has a rock / pop score with enormous appeal for teenagers.
Show Licence Agreement
Starlight Express is licensed to Youth Groups, academic schools and colleges, and universities subject to the terms and conditions listed in the licence below. How Much Does It Cost?
When you make your show licence application you will be taken through to the show licence quotation page. This quote will be based on the details you provide.
For Schools, Colleges and Universities in the UK the cost of the licence is the greater of £200 + VAT per performance or 16% of your Box Office takings.
Show Logo
There is a compulsory charge of £75 + VAT for the official logo for Starlight Express.
This will be included as part of your show licence quote.
Music Materials
Once you have paid for your show licence and logo you will then need to hire the materials for your show from the Music Sales Hire Library.

Hire Fee for 1-3 performances and 1 month = £150.00
Each extra month = £70.00
Each extra performance = £25.00
Vocal Scores (per copy)
£3.00 for the first month; £1.50 for the second month and £1.00 for each month
thereafter.
Libretto (per copy)
£2.00 for the first month; £1.00 for the second month and 50p for each month.

More About The Show
With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Richard Stilgoe and choreography by Arlene Phillips, Starlight Express has been seen by almost 20 million people and gross box office world-wide is estimated at over £270 million.
The show opened at the Apollo Victoria in London on 27th March 1984. In April 1991 Starlight Express became the second longest running musical in London theatre history at that time. The show has also been produced in Germany, the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and Mexico, as well as having a production on ice in 1997.
In 1993 the entire creative team re-grouped to revise the show for a new generation. Five new songs were added (including “Next Time You Fall in Love” with lyrics by Don Black), numbers were re-choreographed and the show was re-launched at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, London.
